My husband and I had this custom home built in 2006 based on a plan we had seen by our builder. We hand picked the lot and had it cleared to allow space to put in a pool had we decided to do so. We love the neighborhood and spent lots of fun nights playing cards and bunco with neighbors, as well as neighborhood outings. We love company, but still enjoy privacy when we want since nobody can build across from us or behind us as that land is designated green space. We also have planted many trees that bring nature into the yard. As I write this I can hear the North Carolina Bird... the Cardinal.
Willow Spring is a small town/quieter location, but still close to downtown Raleigh restaurants, theatre, and night life. Just minutes from I-40, I-540, I-95. About 3 hours from mountains and ocean beaches.
We have a fairly small community which has about 75 homes. We have older and younger families. Lots of neighborhood functions including neighbor cookouts, book clubs, Bunco, children's activities, etc.
For groceries and other conveniences, about 8 miles west on Hwy 42 into Fuquay Varina - every store you need (Harris Teeter, Aldi, Walmart, Gas Stations, Dunkin Donuts, etc.). About 8 miles east into Garner/Raleigh is every store you need. ( Lowes Food, Gas Stations, Ace Hardware - a little further is Walmart, Food Lion, etc.).
Every year we look forward to attending the Balloon Fest that has been in Fuquay Varina the last 2 years and is expected to continue. There are very nice Bed & Breakfasts in Fuquay Varina where my family stays when in town each year. There's a great St. Paddy's Parade and a wonderful Christmas Parade in downtown Raleigh.
Monthly, our typical utility bills look like this: - Duke-Progress - $161.00/month budget - McLamb's Propane for Fireplace - $40.00/month budget (fluctuates based on weather) - Aqua Water (Community Well) - Varies from $32.00/month - can run over $150.00/month in summer when I run the irrigation (fluctuates based on weather) - Garbage Pickup is available. We take our garbage and recycles to the dump which is only about 2 miles up the road. No charge to use Wake County Landfill. - Time Warner Cable - $170.00/month (includes TV, Telephone and internet) - ProLawn - I use them to treat my lawn on a regular basis. Runs $90.00/month - They treat 6 times a year. - Hardee Septic - Recommendation is to have cleaned every 5-8 years. We had the tank cleaned out on 9/12/17 at a cost of $275.00 - Alexander Termite - We had a complete new treatment on 9/12/16 at a cost of $695.00 which is good for about 10 years. We had last annual treatment on 9/11/17 at a cost of $110.00
We did no renovations for our home however, following updates were made fairly recently.
1) New carpet in all bedrooms Oct/2015 2) New A/C units (both upstairs unit and downstairs unit) March/2016 3) New roof on home as well as on powered workshop in yard Dec/2017
